First Steps to a Big Girl Room

|

We started making the first steps toward making a big girl room and a new nursery this weekend.

On Friday we ordered all new big girl furniture from Pottery Barn Kids. I went back and forth on what kind of bed to get her, but in the end I decided on a daybed with a trundle. I grew up with a daybed and loved it. The trundle will come in handy for sleepovers or if my girls share a room someday. I also have thought A might sleep on the trundle at first, since it’s low to the ground. We’ll see.

I also love that the daybed will still leave a lot of space for playing. Her room is the largest of the kid/guest bedrooms, so it somewhat functions as the playroom since we don’t have a dedicated play room. I wanted to leave as much floor space open as possible.

I have yet to decide what bedding to get for her new bed. Do you have any good recommendations for sweet girly bedding?

Here’s the inspiration board I created for Miss A’s nursery in this house…

I’m trying to decide if I want to leave the art, pom poms and most of the decoration in place, or just do something else entirely? Decisions, decisions.

And do I want to re-use it in the baby’s room if I don’t keep it in Miss A’s room?

I’m glad to be pulling the dark wood crib and dresser out of her room, and I’m considering using some all-natural chalky paint on the crib for the new baby’s room.

I’ve been pinning a few inspiration photos for the new nursery and right now I think I’m going to with a pale robin’s egg blue on the walls. Are you surprised? I doubt it. I think Coach will pull his hair out if I paint another wall a blue/green color. But he’ll probably just have to pull his hair out, because it most likely will happen. Sorry hon… 🙂

We also donated our queen mattress and box springs this past weekend. It was our old mattress from before we got our king sized bed… cue the hallelujah chorus! And it had been acting as a guest bed, but now that we will be putting a baby in our middle extra bedroom, we don’t really have room for a guest queen mattress. {We still have a double in our other guest bedroom/office.}

Now I just need to clean out all of my junk and home decor stuff that I’ve been storing in there for the past two years. I at least have room in there now to move the crib and dresser when the big girl furniture comes.

I’m so excited that after waiting for more than 2 years, we finally get to give that middle bedroom a purpose!

Now off to clean and organize…

  1. I love that inspiration pic Laura- with the pale blue and the navy rug too… can’t wait to see what you decide!!

  2. What a fun time! Plus a good reason to clean out clutter. I noticed that because it is a big first step for the transition to teen room for my 14 year old. Cleaning out the childhood mementos is taking more time that I thought it would between the summer activities. Enjoy the journey!!
