Red, White & Burlap Christmas Home Tour {a Recollection}

| |

I’m one of those “terrible people” who decorates for Christmas long before any turkey has been sliced or we’ve gone around the table and expressed our thanks. We’ll just call that November holiday Merry Thanksmas.

BUT! This year, it’s a little different. I’ve been dying to paint my kitchen cabinets white since the first time I laid eyes on my kitchen. There’s just always been another project to do, or I had to host something in my home, or it just wasn’t convenient.

Y’all.

Here’s a little truth. There will never be a convenient time to paint your kitchen cabinets. Never.

With that in mind, I was about to go crazy a couple of weeks ago when my girls were sick and I needed a project to take my mind off of the cabin fever.

So I decided to paint my kitchen cabinets.

Right before Thanksgiving.

Right before Christmas.

Right before my girls’ birthdays.

When I need to be decorating and Christmas and birthday shopping, I’m sanding and cleaning cabinets and taping off walls and replacing cabinet trim.

I have clearly lost my mind.

All of my Christmas decorations are still in the attic! Wah. And the only thing I’ve done is march myself down to Walmart and pick up a new tree and set it up in the living room to make myself feel a like less panicked every time a Christmas song came on the radio. (The glittery, wooden star topper is from Target and the deer art is from Craftberry Bush.)

So while I wait for my cabinets to dry, let’s take a look back at some Christmas cheer from years past…

Christmas Home Tour 2013: Pretty in Plaid

All the way back to 2013 when I was obviously ahead of the trend and had my “Pretty in Plaid” Christmas home tour. 🙂 I was all about some tartan that year. And I’ll be bringing some of that back this year since it’s so hot and I love it.

Then last year I removed the red! I wanted to go more neutral and see if I could go without red during Christmas. As you will see, there are a few pops of red here and there, but not much.

Instead of doing a whole house tour, I broke it down into rooms and shared one room at a time. That was mostly because I was about to deliver a baby and the thought of getting every space clean all at once to take pictures and post about it seemed overwhelming to me, so I broke it down into smaller bites.

Last year I made this simple chicken wire Christmas card holder.

And after the season was over, I cut out the pictures from the cards and left them up all year. I so look forward to updating it this year and adding new pictures of my family and friends!

I’m going to have to find a new home for our little bitty Christmas tree that houses all of our homemade and sentimental ornaments. Hmmm, where to put it?

Then the tour moved into the kitchen and for the first time, I decorated it for Christmas. I can’t wait to see how it looks this year with white cabinets! Oh, so excited!!

I also put my Christmas stamp on the chalkboard in my eat-in dining area.

I’ve got the sweetest, most colorful advent calendar to hang up this year. I can’t wait to see how it looks on the chalkboard. Hopefully the baby won’t mess with it! #fingerscrossed

My Christmas tree was a rustic, glam, glittery beauty last year and I think I’ll keep it mostly the same this year. I’ll be busy decorating the new flocked tree.

I do always try to add a new ornament or two to my big tree every year. And I have a DIY or two in mind, so we’ll see if I get those done this season.

Last year I made this sweet scrapbook paper garland that look like sheet music. I can’t wait to decorate with it again this year. And I have a new garland planned for the new tree. I’m excited to make it and share it. Of course, then concern is always that it won’t turn out like I envisioned it, but hopefully it will be cute and blog-worthy!

And lastly, I decorated the dining table

My mom is coming to help me paint this morning and I hope we’ll have time to decorate some too! My holiday home tour will be here next Monday! Eek! So much to do.

Wish me luck!
