One of my favorite DIY projects ever is my $40 open shelves that I built in my old kitchen. I know that the trend is probably supposed to be over by now. I mean, I think it was on the “going-out-of-style” lists way back in 2016. So, why do I bring it up today? Well, the response I get every time I post my farmhouse open shelving on Instagram, everyone goes crazy!
I still love the look, too, so I don’t really care if it’s trendy or not. Do what you love, I say! (P.S I miss them now that we’ve moved. BUT it’s also fun to style built-in bookshelves, too!)
While I never intended for mine to be anything more than decoration, so many people use their open shelves as open cabinetry and store plates, cups or other oft-used kitchenware. The reason for placing oft-used items on these shelves is that they won’t be dust collectors since they will be washed regularly. *smart!*

I’ve long admired these reclaimed wood shelves from Our Vintage Home Love. The perfect addition to a truly vintage home full of character and charm. Fun side note: her farmhouse table in her dining room was the first one I ever swooned over and decided from that point on I’d have one of my own someday. (I made my own farmhouse table years ago – tutorial here.)

Sorry about that! I think it may be a screen width issue?? If I make my window smaller, it covers the words. But if I open it fully, they don’t. Do they cover the words no matter what?
