My Lazy Summer Decor

|

I have to admit – I’ve been lazy this summer. Well, actually it’s more like so. dang. busy! If I could sum up this whole 2013 summer in one word, it would be exhausted. We did VBS, lots of lake time, said goodbye to my Grandmother, spent lots of time with little friend play dates, and played at the pool. It’s been tons of fun {and tiring}, but my idea of a relaxing summer with my hubby home has just not been my reality. I thought I could get a bajillion projects done while Coach hung out with Miss A this summer, but no. Just no.

So, very few projects have been finished. My laundry room makeover is going e’er so slowly. {Definitely not going to meet my self-imposed deadline of August 1. Especially since I leave in a couple of hours to go to Haven.Eeek!! I’ve been packing and shopping, and taking my daughter to my parents’ house, making sure Coach has food to eat while I’m gone, etc.}

But, life has been lived, loved ones have been celebrated, and we’ve spent a TON of time together. That’s what is important right? 🙂

Which brings me to my post title: My Lazy Summer Decor. Last year I created my first summer mantel and I loooved it. Unfortunately, though, when I did my summer mantel last summer I didn’t have my DSLR camera and I was in the middle of getting my new computer. So, I used some terrible iPhone pics as my pictures. I really should go back and re-create the mantel and take proper pictures of it. {And this picture right here was from my old camera and I used the flash!!! For shame! I still have a long way to go in the photography department, but this is just bad. I hesitated to even put my logo on it.}

But this year, I looooved my spring mantel. So, I decided to keep it and just add some summer decor around the house. I added a few cute starfish to my spring mantel.

I created a cute vignette on my Board and Batten shelf, which I love to decorate.

I added my favorite summer project so far: my DIY weathered wooden beach buoys to my side table under my gallery wall.

I had to crop the picture because if I showed you the whole thing, you’d see how we got home the night before from the lake and just dropped a bunch of crap on the floor. 🙂 Summer living, y’all = the house is a constant disaster zone.

 And then I added some sea glass I picked up at Pottery Barn {on sale!} to my favorite little vase from Target. I cropped the picture close because I’ve got some new fun things in my entry way that I’ll be showing you soon!!

Oh, and here’s another shot of my mantel. I wanted to show you my new little friend on the floor. Well, he’s not new … do you see it?

My huge globe originally belonged to Coach’s dad before he passed away. And we’ve had it in storage for the past 4 plus years because I had no idea where to put it. I finally found the perfect place! And I love having it in the living room with us. Miss A loved to play with it. I’m thinking I’ll use a little Rub n’ Buff on the brass and have a little makeover one day. But until then, I’m enjoying having it out on the hearth.

Thanks for taking my little lazy summer tour.

How did you decorate for summer this year?

Did you go all out or just wing it like I did?

Have a great day!! {And now I’ve got to load the car and head for Haven … sooooooo excited!! I’ll be sure and have a recap next week once I recover!}

    1. Thanks so much, Katie!! Yes, we have two shopping carts and they are always all around the house along with all of the other moving toys. 🙂 just keepin’ it real!!

  15. My summer decor has been sawdust, tools everywhere and random pieces of wood from my daughter’s big girl room remodel. So now that it, our back deck addition, and our new sidewalks have been poured and dried, I have just enough time to clean, pick up the tools, and organize my house before hubs and I go back to teaching full time. I did add a picture from my son’s ultrasound at 27 weeks though, so I can count that, right?!

  16. Laura, Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I bet you’re having a blast at Haven. I know what you mean about less than desirable photos. I probably need to go back and change a lot of my photos. I love your spring and summer mantel. The photo of the dropped bags on the floor just show that you’re real! I know, we all want to have perfect stylized photos. Where did you put your gold Target lampshade?

    1. Hi Sandy!! Haven was so awesome. You should come next year. 🙂 I put my yellow lampshade in my entry, so I’ll share it when I reveal my entry very soon!! I have to get it styled just right. 🙂
