Americana Guest Bathroom Makeover

|

Hi friends! I hope your week is off to a great start! I spent this past weekend sprucing up my guest bathroom. {Thanks so much to my mom who came and helped me out with the kiddo and taking down my Christmas decor – gasp! – otherwise it would have been up until February!! #hangsheadinshame}

Traditional-Americana Guest Bathroom Update: painted walls, cabinets, new hardware and a punch of color!

As an Ace Blogger, I was thrilled to team up with Ace Hardware to spruce up the bathroom for a full weekend project. I changed out all of the hardware as well as painted the cabinets and added some fun color and personality, too! I already shared about painting the walls last week, which did wonders in getting rid of the orange-y builder’s beige.

Before I painted it and did all of the work this weekend, I hadn’t done a thing to the bathroom since we moved in. Well, I added a shower curtain, but only because that was necessary for it to be functional. Everything else had been untouched. Let’s take a look at the bathroom before.

Guest Bathroom Makeover: Before

The walls were beige and the cabinets were a honey oak color, which isn’t horrible, but it’s not my favorite. {All of the cabinetry in my house is the same.} The towel ring, towel bar and toilet paper holder were all pretty simple and cheap-looking hardware. They worked fine, but I wanted something a little more substantial for the hardware. And the faucet was fine, too, but I wanted something a bit fancier.

Let’s take a look at how it looks now! Unfortunately, due to the shape and size of this bathroom, it is particularly difficult to get a good all-of-the-changes shot. So, you’ll have to see it in bits and pieces. It is also equally difficult to take good pictures in a room with no natural light. So, if the wall colors look a bit off, it’s the elementary editing skills and not the actual color.

The transformation started with the paint colors on the wall and on the cabinets. Wall color is Oyster Pearl and the cabinet color is Ominous Cloud. LOVE them both!

The paint I used is Ace Hardware’s Cabinet and Trim paint. The self-leveling is ah-mazing!!

The cabinets look like they came from the factory in this color. I’m going to do a full post on how I painted them and all about the paint, but in the meantime, if you want to try it yourself, check out your local Ace and see if they have it. And if they don’t carry it, see if they can order it. I had to have mine shipped special to the store. But it’s oh so worth it! I love this product!! {Just a little tip: you want to paint really thin coats. I had to paint my cabinets three times, but they look incredible!!}

I kept the knobs on the cabinet doors, but changed them out on the drawers. I’ve been wanting to have some bin pulls in my house and I love these! I have a source list at the bottom of this post, so that you can buy some for yourself. 🙂

My jumping off point for color was the Norman Rockwell art. I picked these up at my great-grandmother’s house when were cleaning it out after she passed away 15 years ago. So, literally, for 15 years, these art pieces have been sitting in my closet un-touched and un-opened. These are so American to me, giving the guest bath, what I call, a Traditional Americana style.

When Coach and I got married, I really loved the color red. But as time as gone by, I’ve tried to remove most reads from my decor. I did get these red towels for my wedding and several times have thought I should just donate or sell them. But I really love them in this bathroom now. The muted grey-blue and red along with the Norman Rockwell art make me want to break out in the Star Spangled Banner. I just think it works!

I so love this cute little art piece. I want to live an intentional life – always.

So love my new hardware, even the hardware for my toilet paper holder. 🙂 It’s so much more substantial than the old hardware and it’s just so pretty.

Thanks so much for taking the tour. I hope you liked it! I’m so glad to finally have infused a little personality into my blah, bland guest & kid bathroom.
