Christmas Decorating Trends, Classic Plaid & Ralph Lauren Style (HSS #529)

The Christmas bins are officially coming out at our house! I started decorating last weekend, but with six trees and plenty of ribbon, greenery and ornaments to sort through, it certainly doesn’t all happen in one day. And honestly, I think that’s part of the fun.

Before I buy anything new, I like to pull out the decorations I already own and remember what I loved using last year. Then I might add a new ribbon, move a favorite piece to another room or bring in one small detail that makes everything feel fresh again.

That’s one reason I’m especially excited about this year’s Christmas decorating trends. We’re seeing so many classic, collected ideas, like tartan plaid, oversized bows, vintage ornaments, jewel tones, natural greenery and even the return of heirloom silver. These aren’t trends that require us to start over. They give us permission to use the meaningful pieces we already have and mix them together in a new way.

If you’re beginning to decorate this weekend, start with one room or one focal point. Choose your colors, pull out your favorite sentimental pieces and let the rest come together little by little.
