I’ve been planning and plotting my 2025 Christmas decor and I thought I’d share some of my ideas, plus the trends I’m seeing so far this year!

My game plan every year is to use most of what I already have, but change up a few things. I’ll sometimes add a new ribbon or a few ornaments to my tree. But overall, I like to use the same classic decor pieces and sprinkle in a few new trendy things or colors as the trends change.

My blue, brown and orange Christmas decor from last year is one of my favorite looks ever! And it may need to be repeated again, with maybe some more greens, deep reds and browns added in this year.

You’ll see below how the colors are leaning ever more traditional this year. So, maybe it’s time to go back to the reds and greens. We’ll see how it goes!

Many of the trends are present in the Studio McGee x Target collaboration that launched on October 5, 2025. Check out my favorites here:

Twists and Braids

This year we’re seeing a lot of twists and braids in furniture and decor. This trend celebrates handcrafted, sculptural details that bring a subtle sense of movement to your space. Think:

  • Braided or twisted candles — those sculptural tapers that look like art even when they’re not lit.
  • Woven or braided mirrors and frames made from rattan, rope, or even metal.
  • Twist-handled lamps, candlesticks, or vases that give a modern nod to traditional craftsmanship.
  • Braided trims or edging on textiles like throw pillows, blankets, or table linens — a small detail that adds beautiful texture and depth.

I love this tree collar with a braided edge on it…

After years of clean lines, homeowners are craving warmth, softness, and handmade charm. These braided and twisted designs add that “crafted by hand” touch that feels comforting and real. They’re understated, but they instantly elevate a space!

This look also pairs beautifully with neutral, natural palettes like creamy whites, taupes, warm woods, and stone textures, which means it fits right in with the cozy, layered style we love here.

Deep Red, Navy and Dark Green

Think rich classic colors for Christmas this year. Red is really big in home decor right now: anything from deep merlot to a rich cranberry, so it’s an obvious choice for the holidays. And adding a deep green with rich navy just seems like the classic choice. Lots of traditional colors in Christmas decor this year.

The Mood: Timeless, Moody, and Refined

This palette feels rich, warm, and nostalgic, kinda like stepping into a candlelit living room on Christmas Eve. Deep red adds that traditional holiday spirit, navy brings depth and a modern edge, and dark green grounds it all with nature-inspired calm. Together, they evoke that old-world, heritage charm — think plaid ribbons, velvet textures, vintage ornaments, and brass accents.

Tartan plaid works great with this color scheme, which is one of the only ways I incorporate red into my holiday decor some years. But it’s so classic, but trendy for this year, too!

How We’re Seeing It Styled

  • Tree Trims: Velvet or satin ribbons in deep red or navy tied onto branches sometimes layered together for a luxe, tailored look.
  • Tabletop: Deep green dinnerware paired with gold flatware and navy napkins, a simple but striking combo that feels both classic and new.
  • Soft Furnishings: Dark green or navy throw pillows mixed with cozy tartans or embroidered textures, which are perfect for creating a moody, layered holiday feel.
  • Accents: Mercury glass ornaments, antique brass candleholders, and rich wood tones keep the palette grounded and glowing.

This year’s holiday décor is all about depth and intention. We’re moving away from bright, poppy reds toward something more collected and cozy. These deeper tones pair beautifully with natural greenery, warm candlelight, and vintage-inspired pieces. It’s a look that feels both elegant and comfortable, almost like heirloom décor that’s been passed down and loved for generations.

Mini Wreaths for Holiday Decor

I’ve always loved a mini wreath, and have used them on windows, cabinets and backs of the chairs for many years. So I’m in style now, I guess! I love them everywhere. Wreaths aren’t just for the front door! And mini is always fun!

What Determines a Mini Wreath?

A mini wreath is really defined by its size and use, rather than a specific material or shape. Here’s what typically makes a wreath “mini”:

Mini Wreath Sizes

  • Diameter: Usually 6–12 inches across, compared to standard door wreaths that range from 18–26 inches.
  • Thickness: Often slimmer and lighter, which makes them easier to hang in smaller spots.

Common Uses of Mini Wreaths

Mini wreaths are perfect for accenting cozy little corners around the house! Some of my favorite ways to use them are:

  • On cabinet doors or kitchen chairs with a pretty ribbon
  • In windows for a uniform, festive look
  • On mirrors or above framed art for a layered touch
  • Around candles or lanterns as a table centerpiece
  • On the backs of dining chairs for a charming holiday table setup

Bow Holiday Decor

The bow decor trend is one of the sweetest and most versatile ways to add charm and femininity to your Christmas styling. It’s classic, playful, and nostalgic, yet somehow feels totally fresh again. Here’s how it’s showing up and why it’s stealing hearts (and Pinterest boards!) everywhere.

The Look: Whimsical Meets Elegant

Bows bring a sense of joyful simplicity… that perfect blend of childlike nostalgia and grown-up polish. This season, we’re seeing them in every form imaginable:

  • Velvet ribbons tied around wreaths, garlands, and even candlesticks
  • Oversized bows adorning Christmas trees in place of traditional toppers
  • Tiny bows tucked into branches, on ornaments, or gift wrap for a dainty, layered look
  • Bow-shaped accents: think brass bow hooks, embroidered pillow details, or ceramic bow ornaments

I’ve loved using a bow topped on my trees the past few years, like this one I made with ribbon in my office!

After years of minimalism, there’s been a huge return to romantic, decorative details and bows fit perfectly within that grandmillennial, “cozy classic” aesthetic. They add softness and personality to any holiday space without feeling overdone.

Plus, bows are budget-friendly and endlessly customizable! You can switch up the ribbon width, texture, and color to match your style … from blush velvet and ivory satin to traditional red plaid or deep green silk.

While the trends I mentioned above tend to be really big or really new this year, I’ve got more trends that have been going for a few years now, that deserve a quick mention.

Twinkle Fairy Lights

Whether you go big with the viral Home Depot Christmas tree, or go smaller with the sparse Walmart version, these blinking lights are still a big deal! But if you’re not looking for a new tree, grab a few strands of these LED twinkle light strands and add them to your tree or garland this year! The magical feeling they bring is worth the extra effort.

Vintage-Style Christmas

There’s something so special about a Christmas tree filled with a mix of collected ornaments, each one holding a little piece of family history. I’ve always loved that nostalgic, “hodgepodge” look that tells the story of our lives together. Since Christmas is about celebrating Jesus and the traditions that make our families unique, it feels only right to decorate with those meaningful pieces we’ve gathered over the years.

Nostalgic Christmas Tree Decor

I especially love setting up a smaller tree in our bedroom or in the girls’ rooms filled with our family ornaments. Each year, I give my girls one or two new ones, a sweet reminder of something from that year, like a favorite sport or a special trip. Someday, when they have homes of their own, I can’t wait to pass their collections along so they can start their own trees full of memories.

Final Thoughts

As I start dreaming up my 2025 Christmas decor, I’m reminded that creating a beautiful holiday home doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch every year. The beauty comes from mixing the old with a few new pieces! Reimagine what you already have and adding just a few thoughtful touches to make it feel fresh again.

Whether it’s a new ribbon color, a cozy textile, or a pretty ornament that catches your eye, these little updates can completely transform your space. Most of all, I hope this inspires you to create a holiday home that feels like you: warm, welcoming, and filled with the joy of the season.
