Wooden Monogram Wreath

| |

Happy Monday, friends! I hope the weekend treated you well and you were able to recharge. We were home for the first time in about two months and I got some much-needed cleaning done. Ahhh, I feel much better. I’m a major home-body, so being gone so much tends to wear me down. I love a good, lazy weekend at home.

Us being home meant that we could do a little DIY, which hasn’t happened around here in a loooong time. And it felt really good. Well, it felt good until I stapled my thumb. But despite the pain while pulling the staple out, it didn’t hurt too much. Yikes! {Actually, I spoke too soon … a few hours later, my thumb is pretty sore. I’m hoping it feels better tomorrow.}

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I {aka Coach, my hubby} spray painted this beautiful wooden monogram. I’ve wanted one for probably a year now, but finally bought it several months ago with some Christmas money I’d been saving.

And then it took several months for me to do something about it. I have a friend who has a large white one on her front door, so I wanted to do the same. Since I’m preggo, I let the hubby do the spray painting. He did exceptionally well getting thin, even coats on the whole thing. Yay Coach! {You can buy these at Mint Julep Monograms. Mine is the 18 inch Classic Viney.}

And then I stapled some floral wire to the back of it, hence the stapling accident, and then attached it to my trusty burlap wreath.

I have a small confession to make. And you probably won’t be surprised by it. But I haven’t done anything in the way of changing my decor from spring to summer. Isn’t that the first lesson you learn in home decor blogging class?

Rule #1: You must decorate for all holidays and seasons.

Yeah, well, I broke it. We’ll just have to keep riding the wave of my summer mantel from two years ago. Maybe next year I’ll have some fabulously nautical decor vision and carry it out in my home. Until then, we’ll just look forward to fall, my most favorite season to decorate. Speaking of fall, it felt a little like football and chili weather this past week. It was a glorious respite from the typical hot and muggy July here in North Alabama. Don’t worry, though, it’s back to being its usual humid, soupy self now.

But back to the wreath. I love the simplicity of the burlap and monogram. I hung it up with just the monogram on it at first, but it needed a little color, so I slapped on the bow I made for Miss A’s 3rd birthday wreath. I’m not sure that I love the pink polka dots for this look, but it’ll work until I get myself to Hobby Lobby and buy something different, which will probably be for my fall decor-fest. I can’t wait to dress it up for fall!

Speaking of Hobby Lobby, and no I’m not starting a political debate here. We don’t talk politics here at The Turquoise Home. But I do want to say that I have trouble walking in there during the summer because the Christmas decor has been up since MAY! Are you kidding me? I know that people need to get a head start on their Christmas crafts, but 7 months is a little much. I know I’m trying to rush Fall in July, but that is nothing like Christmas in May. I just can’t even handle it. Let’s enjoy right now for a bit, mmmmkay?

Off soap box.

How do you feel about Christmas in May?

  5. You can rush fall all you want! Its the most beautiful time of the year (and Christmas is a close second). I am with you though, May is WAY too early. I feel like it gets earlier and earlier every year. We tend to lose the meaning when it becomes about stuff rather than the real meaning!! Love your blog!!

  6. I agree I get tired of seeing the early Thanksgiving and Christmas decor in May it won’t be long and it will stay in stock year round. I love taking one month at a time. Love reading your blog
