Painted DIY Lamp Makeover

Painting is one of my favorite easy DIY projects because it so quickly and inexpensively changes the look of an object or room. I used a new paint color line to transform this blah, clearance Target lamp into a pretty lamp for my home!

Easy DIY Lamp Makeover with Paint

Hi friends! Are you getting back into the back-to-school mode, or are you in denial and trying to soak up the last few weeks of summer? I don’t know about where you live, but in my city, schools start back on Tuesday. And since my hubby is a teacher and a coach, he had to go back yesterday. Boo.

I actually have a love/hate relationship with summer. I love the water and enjoying being outside near it, but my type A, get ‘er done personality struggles with the lack of structure and carefreeness of the summer months. I’ve gotten better at letting it all go over the past 5 years, but I can’t deny that the beginning of the school year with all of its structured goodness doesn’t make me a little giddy. (All of you summer lovers, don’t throw stones, OK??)

OK, enough of the chitter chatter … and back to this lamp.

Pre-painted Target clearance lamp

I snagged this lovely lamp and its twin in the Target clearance aisle months ago. I never loved the color of the wood, but who can pass up perfectly brand new $5 lamp bases? Not me! I used this one “as is” in my Spring decor for a little while before I decided that I really didn’t like the color of the base, especially with that shade, and definitely not in that spot.

So, I tucked it away in my stash and pulled out another lamp makeover.

When Ace Hardware came out with their new OPI Color Palette by Clark+Kensington last month, I knew exactly what needed an update! Yep, you read that right. Ace has partnered with the fabulous nail lacquer company, OPI, to bring 18 fun accent colors to The Paint Studio. The 18 colors are divided into collections: the Artist, the Wild Heart & the Romantic. I don’t know about you, but I always use OPI nail polish when I’m painting my nails. {My favorite color, though, is now discontinued, so maybe my new paint color can double as my new pedicure color!}

And what a genius idea to turn nail polish colors into paint colors? Why hasn’t anyone done this before?? Note: the squiggly line colors below are Clark+Kensington colors, which pair nicely with the OPI colors. Just so you’re not confused. :)

the Wild Heart Collection from OPI with Clark+Kensington

I chose My Pointe Exactly from the Wild Heart collection. It’s a soft, light gray that looks beautiful on my pretty new lamp!

I used Clark+Kensington’s Paint and Primer in one semi-gloss enamel paint, so no need to prime it first. I gave the lamp a quick sanding, wiped it down and started painting. {Thanks Ace for providing the paint!}

And in just a couple hours my lamp was transformed and ready to be displayed. I haven’t quite decided where it’s going to go. Maybe in a new baby room, perhaps?? :)

    Nearly all of my polishes are OPI, but I can’t pick a favorite! They’re all great. And the names trump all… one of my dreams is to get to name OPI colors someday! Or Clark + Kensington + OPI paint colors… that would be awesome as well 😉
