How to Make Lemon Sugar Scrub {a fabulous Mother's Day gift!}

I found this recipe for sugar scrubs from my friend Beth, but I wanted to try it with lemon. Lemon is so good for your skin, as well as many other things.

Here’s how to make your very lemon sugar scrub.

What You’ll Need to Make the Lemon Sugar Scrub

  • 2.5 cups of sugar {Any kind will do, but I used pure cane sugar because I wanted larger granules.}
  • 8 oz. oil like almond oil or grapeseed oil.
  • 30 drops of Young Living Lemon Essential Oil {To order any essential oils, please click here for to sign up for an account.  My member # 1666197}
  • Wide-mouth glass containers. I bought mine at Walmart, but you can also find them here. This recipe will fill 4 8 oz./half pint containers.

This recipe is so simple, and smells so good. I had the urge several times to eat a spoonful, but I had to keep reminding myself that it’s a body product, not a food. Although, all of the ingredients are edible. 🙂

How to Make DIY Lemon Sugar Scrub

Step 1. Wash Your Jars

Wash your jars before you fill them with the scrub. I like to make sure they are nice and clean.

Step 4. Stir in the Essential Oil

Add the Lemon Essential Oil and stir until mixed well. And you don’t just have to use lemon. Pretty much any essential oil that you love {and can be used topically} would be great for this scrub. Well, there are some that would be kind of smelly. Like an oregano sugar scrub might not be the best choice, but I’ll let you decide.

Please note: Citrus essential oils are photosensitive, so always apply sunscreen after use if you will be out in the sun.

Also note: I will encourage you to only use Young Living Essential Oils. They are thereapeutic-grade essential oils with a Seed to Seal guarantee. Other oils you might find in a drugstore or supermarket are typically cut with synthetic products and can cause skin irritations.

Step 5. Store Sugar Scrub in Air-Tight Glass Jars

Divide the sugar scrub into the jars and add whatever pretty ribbons or ties. I just used yellow ribbon and twine around the lids.

It’s important to use glass jars because the citrus oils will eat away at plastic.

    1. Yep! I just scoop some out with my hand and apply where needed. I have terrible heel issues with dryness and cracking and it works wonders for my heels, let me tell ya! It softens them up and makes them feel so nice … works so much better than any pumice stone or heel scrubber thingies.

  3. Between painting and gardening, my hands are always a mess. I think this yummy scrub would work wonders!
