Use Wrapped Gifts as Decor
These days stores are starting sales earlier and earlier, which means we can knock out our gift lists by November. And when the shopping’s done, it’s easier to get all of the gifts wrapped ahead of time. I try to do this every year so that I can relax and enjoy the holidays with my family.
The other benefit to wrapping gifts early is that they can double as decor! I’ve been known to use a few gifts here and there to decorate my home. Just remember where you put them all come Christmas morning!
Set Up a Gift Wrapping Station
Over the years I’ve had many different gift-wrapping set ups. If I was short on space, I used an under-the-bed storage containers. In my previous home, I had a desk in my living room that I made pretty gift wrapping station where I could wrap presents while my kids napped.
And then in this house, I have an extra closet in my guest bedroom where I set up a wall organizer (similar) and a desk with a place to wrap gifts. It’s the perfect place for me to stash gifts from my kids because it has a lock on the door. And I can wrap the gifts in there as well! My own little Mrs. Claus’ workshop.
9 Christmas Giftwrap Ideas for Beautiful Gifts
So when it comes to wrapping gifts, I like to put a little extra thought into it, like matching it with my decor and adding some personal touches. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite ways to wrap gifts!
1. Match Your Decor
It’s so beautiful when your gifts match your decor. And a great way to do that is to use leftover ribbon from the tree to wrap your gifts!
Or choose a wrapping paper that coordinates with the ribbons you’re using on the tree that year. It’s so simple, and yet gives an elevated and cohesive look to your decor!
2. Wrap with Ribbon
If I do nothing else, I always grab some ribbon and tie it to the packages. There’s nothing prettier than a simple ribbon tied in a bow. You can choose from wide ribbons to skinny ribbons. It’s all so pretty!
3. Embellish the Wrapping Paper with Gift Toppers
Go one step further than ribbon and add a mini ornament, candy cane, pom pom, jingle bells or a mini wreath! It’s so cute and personable!
But it’s also a gift the recipient can keep and re-use next year on their tree, remembering you for years to come. If I could only choose one thing to add as gift toppers (after ribbon), this would be it! I think it looks so pretty by bringing more decor to the bottom of the tree.
And it doesn’t have to be expensive. I look for little ornaments after Christmas every year and grab them up while they are on major sale!
4. Bring the Outdoors In
A sprig of greenery is not only beautiful, it smells delightful, too! Add a simple evergreen sprig to a package for a beautiful and aromatic gift. Tie on a pine cone with a bow for an added accent.
5. Add a Monogram Ornament for Special Personalization
Make the recipient feel special with a monogrammed gift! Simply add an initial ornament to your holiday gift wrap and you won’t get the gifts mixed up on Christmas morning!
6. Wrapping With String
If the ribbon isn’t your vibe, or it’s too expensive, grab some string, yarn or twine for a more rustic look. It’s easy to wrap twine around a gift several times to give the look of ribbon without the cost! You can even get colored baker’s twine to match your color scheme.
7. Use Craft Paper for Large Gifts
Kraft paper or butcher paper is a wonderful way to wrap large gifts that would use too much of your fancy paper. It looks great when mixed with all of the other wrapping papers. And you can even stamp a design on it if you’d like! Or if you have a large piece of fabric, that will usually cover your large gifts, too!
8. Simple Cut Out Embellishments
One year I didn’t want to buy new wrapping paper, so I made colorful cutouts of deer and snowflakes to add to the kraft paper wrapping. It looked perfectly country and cute!
Other ideas would be to add letter stickers, washi tape or other cute stickers to your plain gift box. This is a great way for kids to personalize presents.
9. Free Printable Gift Tags
A free printable is always a good idea. For many years I’ve found printable Christmas designs and turned them into gift tags. But a few years ago I decided to make my own gift tags for you to print! Attach it with a colorful clothespin and it’s a decoration all on its own!

Wonderful ideas.
One year we were all into using what we had so I used newspaper as wrapping paper, tied with twine. I made my own tags and I must say they went down a treat. Cost me nothing and the wrapping is usually just thrown away!!
I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas.
I love the idea!! Use what you have, but make it cute! 🥰 xo, Laura
