‘Tis the Season for decking the halls and walls and shelves and mantels. The anticipation of Christmas is beginning to feel palatable and I love dressing up our home in hopeful expectation with cheery pops of red, natural swaths of greenery and cozy textures. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Welcome to my home! If you’re hopping over from Diane’s home at In My Own Style, I’m so glad you’re here! I hope that you will virtually pull up to my kitchen table and drink a cup of coffee (or hot chocolate) with me!
I am so excited to share my Christmas kitchen with you today! I was hoping to have more rooms completely finished and ready to share today, but that just didn’t happen. I got sick at the beginning of November and am just now feeling back to my old self, so it took me longer than expected to decorate. But I plan to share more of my home throughout this week, so check back later this week for more Christmas decor fun!
The Seasonal Simplicity Christmas home tours will also continue through this week, so check back each day for new inspiration! {See the list at the end of this post.}
At one point in our owning this home I didn’t even decorate the kitchen, because I just did not love it. But since I painted the kitchen cabinets white a few years ago, I’ve been decorating in here ever since! It’s amazing what a little paint can do, right?

And this year I gave our little eat-in area a little refresh, so I was extra excited to decorate it this year, too!
I always like to decorate my open kitchen shelves as a starting off point for the whole room. I removed everything from the shelves and started fresh with a mix of new and old pieces. I was going to go in a totally different direction with my color scheme than I did.

But when I shared on Instagram that I planned to paint my “JOY” sign navy, I got a flood of messages begging me to keep it red. My sister-in-law pointed out that it would save time to not paint it, so I agreed to leave it as is and ended up adding a lot more red than normal to my kitchen this year.
I normally stay pretty clear of this particular pop of color because I just don’t have a lot of red in my home. (It’s also the team color for the football team in my state that we do NOT cheer for. *cough*Alabama*cough*) So, I don’t like to add a lot of it even at Christmas time. But I just tried something a little different this year and I like it!
It’s a lot more traditional than my usual blues and greens. I still stuck closer to my blues and greens in the living room, but we’ll enjoy the bright hue in the kitchen this year.
{Did you notice anything in particular hanging from the tree on the mantel?? Our very special Elf on a Shelf – my girls are OBSESSED!}

My kitchen last year was one of my very favorites, so I kept some of the same elements again this year. I love the canisters with the miniature Christmas village sets in them.
I also love adding some Christmas cheer to my coffee station. They had the most adorable mugs at Target’s dollar section last year and I snatched up several of them and love bringing them out this time of year.
I love to sip on some hot chocolate with them after the kiddos go to bed. I was hoping they would bring them back this year, but so far I haven’t seen them. (I did find some cute mugs, though, like this one!)

A few of the things I added this year are the faux paper whites, the gorgeous cake stand and the wreaths for my kitchen cabinets.
I have always loved the look of paper whites in the winter, especially at Christmastime. And since I have a black thumb, I decided to snag these faux paper whites during the Cyber Monday sales. I adore them and will definitely keep them out all winter long!
This cake stand was a last-minute purchase because I don’t love the plain one I got for my wedding. I’ve just always wanted one that was more … substantial. So, I used a coupon to snag this one and it’s so much prettier in person than it is online! It’s a nice size and just so well made and beautiful. I think it looks gorgeous sitting out on the counter with a beautiful cake to display. {It looks like it’s sold out online, but you can check here to see if it’s still available in a store near you and just do order to pick up!}
The past couple of years I’ve added wreaths to my cabinet doors with some garland from the Target dollar spot. I could never justify the cost of buying a bunch of wreaths to go on the cabinets. So, when I spotted these for a great deal, I snatched up 6 of them for my kitchen. I love the depth they add to the space and will keep them and use them for years to come, I’m sure!
I repurposed the old faux wreaths for my chalkboard as hanging greenery ornaments. I love the simplicity and whimsy they give the chalkboard this year.
Thank you so much for coming to tour my home this season. And remember to check back later in the week for more of my home tour and others who are joining our Christmas Home Tour Hop! You can see all of them below.
Until then, check out the next friend on our stop today. And that’s Amber Tysl! I just love Amber’s home, photography and her spirit most of all! I love the traditional colors and your darling chalkboard art. The floral arrangement is gorgeous!

Beautiful! I love the red you added! It’s sad that it has become “uncool” to use red in recent years. (I’ve always been “uncool”, haha!)
I never would have guessed your paper whites were fakes. I love the way they look, but can’t have the smell in my neighborhood, much less my house without being miserable. 😢😊 Maybe I’ll snag some of those!
Your kitchen is lovely!!! Merry Christmas!

Wauw I never even thought of decorating the kitchen as well! Your decorations really create a homely place ♥. It makes me want to cook there. I would love to see your complete christmas home tour 🙂 In the middle of this holiday deco spirit that I’m crossing through haha I saw some ideas for living room christmas decor here: https://mykukun.com/10-ideas-for-a-festive-christmas-living-room-decor/ and what caught my eye was an image of a fireplace with a “JOY” sign, your sign also pops, so I might need to get me one of those 🙂

Hi Laura – I enjoyed your tour and looking at everything you did to create the magical feeling of Christmas through your kitchen. I just added a chalkboard wall in my kitchen and loved seeing how you displayed the eraser. I am going to find a way to make mine handy now that you have given me inspiration. Very clever!

Love how you styled the open shelving! Yes, I was one who encouraged red, so I was excited to see it!

Laura, I love your Christmas kitchen decor. Those little wreaths are so cute in your nook area and on those white cabinets! And that is such a cute cake stand — I think my kitchen needs one too! 🙂
