A Farewell Christmas Home Tour

| |

A Farewell Christmas Tour highlighting the kitchen and living room, which was the heart of the home where we spent the last 8 years. It’s bittersweet to share this last home tour with you as we move into our new home this week!

Since this year’s theme was “hurry up and decorate, then pack it all up to move” my approach was classic simplicity. Whether you’re moving or not, you can adopt this look in your home by keeping your very favorite decor, but not going overboard.

Classic, simple Christmas living room

I started by leaving the mirror and two shutters on the mantel and decorating around them. I finally found some statement pieces that I loved over the mantel. And if I were to stay here, I would have just found new ways to decorate around them each season.

I loved having our “fancy” tree in the living room for the first time this year. I usually put the decorative, themed ornaments on the 9-foot tree in the dining room. But I donated my 9-foot tree since our new house only had 9-foot ceilings. And I bought this new 7.5-foot tree to go in the new house.

I can’t wait to get into the new house and be able to decorate it a little bit with our favorite family ornaments.

Christmas Kitchen Table

Moving on into the kitchen, I created a little centerpiece out of greenery, pomegranate branches and some gold ornaments I’ve had to years. I love using a dough bowl for a centerpiece, because it’s so easy to move it off the table whenever you need to eat!

Little touches like adding wreaths to the back of the chairs is easy, but so fun and festive!

Add some pretty plates, like my favorite turquoise melamine plates, and some festive mugs and you’re ready to sit down to Christmas breakfast!

Adding some pretty cascading ornaments to my colander, “noel” sign and a mini sled from the Target dollar spot a couple years back gives this corner a holiday feel.

And then my DIY open shelves! I’m sure going to miss decorating these each season. I’m not sure that there will be a great place for shelves like these in the new house, but I know there will be some fun, new places to decorate.

And I’m OBSESSED with the green velvet, gold emboridered tree pillow. It’s so cute, cozy and subtly festive! I think it’s out of stock for shipping, but hopefully it’s still in your store. Check here online if it’s still in stock in your area!

I started by taking everything off of them from the fall and then cleaning them off. I collected my favorite Christmas decor items on the table, then added one at a time until I loved the look. I always mentally divide the space into 4 sections and try to create mini (balanced) vignettes in each space, utilizing the “rule of 3” or “rule of odd numbers.”

The “Family-Owned Farm” printable is in my Christmas printable collection this year! It’s such a fun one to add to any decor!

The pomegranate and candy candy printable art is also in that collection, so grab some for your own decor!

I love my collection of mini evergreen trees that I’ve collected over the years from different places. They are probably one of my favorite decor items in the holiday and winter seasons.

I hope you’ve enjoyed checking out my final Christmas home tour in this home! By the time this posts, we’ll already be owners of our new home, but still waiting on the furniture to arrive. So, hopefully I’ll get it a little decorated for Christmas before the Big Day! 🎄

  1. LOVE – LOVE – LOVE everything about it – my house has been decorated for Christmas since 10/30 because it was the only time frame I could do it and enjoy it versus it just being another thing “I needed to do…” All the little touches make the room one to curl up in and enjoy! DO you have a link for the blinds? There are so many out there and I’ve been looking for months. THANK YOU! Good Luck on your new place – can’t wait to see… Carol
