15 Best Ceiling Fans for the Stylish Home

|

Yes, you can live in a world where ceiling fans are stylish and contemporary! Don’t let your fan become a last-minute decision where functionality trumps all. Find the best ceiling fan for your bedroom, living room, dining room, or even the porch to take your space to the next level.

Living in the south, I know how hot things can get. Ceiling fans are a must-have, and so many of them become an eyesore in the room. Especially those ones from the 80s and 90s!

So you can bet I had to make some adjustments to the fans in my house to make them chic and elegant rather than plain and unattractive.

When decorating, people often forget there’s so much you can do with the space above your head. Whether you want to instantly draw the eye upward with a statement piece or have a fan blend into the style of the room, ceiling fans can, in fact, be an integral design decision.

In most cases, people view ceiling fans as a necessity, forgoing the opportunity for them to become a stylish part of the room. But, in reality, there are many contemporary and interesting fans out there that can contribute to the overall feeling of a space. You don’t have to compromise on either!

We have several original ceiling fans in our home, namely in the living room (seen above) and primary bedroom. I’ve wanted to change them out since we moved in, so I started doing my research. I hope to replace them before too long! Thankfully ceiling fans have come a long way in the design department!

This is my current living room ceiling fan status, original from the 1990’s.

To prove to you that there are plenty of stunning (yet functional) ceiling fans out there, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorites that you can find online. So whether you’re in the market for a cozy ceiling fan for the bedroom or industrial-style for the dining room, there’s an option for you.

Tips for Choosing the Best Ceiling Fan

Often the first thing you consider for a ceiling fan is its appearance. Ask yourself:

Will it look good in your space?
Will it match my other colors and decor?
Or, will it blend in and fade into the ceiling?

I don’t have to tell you whether or not you think something looks stylish. But here are some other things to keep top of mind while shopping for a ceiling fan:

  • Choose the right blade size for your room. For smaller spaces up to 75 sq. ft., choose blades that are 36” or smaller. For rooms 75 to 144 sq. ft., look for 36” to 42”. And for larger rooms, 144 to 225 sq. ft., opt for 44” to 50”.
  • Hang your ceiling fan in the center of the room. Or if you’re using multiple ceiling fans, such as outdoors, you’ll want to space them out evenly to maximize their cooling.
  • Consider the lighting as well as the fan. Smaller spaces can get away with diffused lighting, and you’ll get a cozier effect. More open spaces, such as living rooms or entryways, may need something brighter and more direct lighting.
  • Downrod length plays a big part in the height of your ceiling fan. For standard ceilings, you want your fan to be suspended 7’ to 9’ above the floor. For 9-foot ceilings, you will want a downrod length between 4” and 8”, while 10-foot ceilings can range from 12” to 72”.

The Ceiling Fan that Blends In

In all honestly, the two ceiling fans in my primary bedroom are the least of the ceiling fan offenders in my home. They are white (with brass accents) and blend in pretty well with the ceiling. I think changing out the light globes – no more frilly glass globes – and spray painting the shiny 80’s brass elements white will go a long way in making it blend in instead of standing out.

Our primary bedroom has two original ceiling fans.

This basic white ceiling fan would be a perfect choice if you’re trying to blend in with the ceiling and not attract attention to the fan. Also, it’s less than $100! It may seem old-fashioned or out-of-date, but you’ll find simple white fans like these in traditional homes that are both new and old.

A similar fan is used in this gorgeous bedroom that is perfect without drawing attention to the ceiling fan in the room.

Best Contemporary Ceiling Fans on Any Budget

But if you want a ceiling fan that makes a more contemporary statement, I’ve got you covered.

Now that you have a general idea of what criteria we’re looking at, let’s look at some ceiling fans! There’s a little bit of something for every style and home out there.

Here are a few of my favorite ceiling fans to spark some design inspiration:

Hunter Fan Company, 59320, 52 inch Hepburn Modern Brass Ceiling Fan with LED Light Kit and Wall Control

1. Hepburn Modern Brass

Those who love vintage-inspired pieces will love the Hepburn. Not only is the brass giving hints of the 1920s, but the round globe light just reminds me of something I would see in a retro home.

The fan is also available in modern black, giving it a much more contemporary look. It all depends on what you’re going for!

Hilmouth 52 in. Indoor Matte Silver Ceiling Fan with Light

2. Hilmouth Matte Silver

The clear glass lights allow this ceiling fan to skim the line between farmhouse style and modern industrial. The fan blades themselves are a light matte grey but with a warm wood finish that can complement both cool and warm-toned rooms.

All in all, it’s a subtle rustic yet modern look that would blend well into most homes.

Goozegg 60 Inch Ceiling Fan without Light Remote Control

3. Modern Natural Wood

This ceiling fan is just stunning! The blades remind me of driftwood, yet they create a very sculptural effect. The rounded edges soften the fan and make it cozier.

It’s rated for indoor and outdoor use, and I could certainly see it outside on a patio or inside as a bedroom ceiling fan.

Looking for the same look for less? Try this Obwala Walnut Ceiling Fan for a fraction of the price!

Crown Canyon II 52 in. Indoor Ceiling Fan with Light Kit

4. Crown Canyon Noble Bronze

If you want a dark and moody ceiling fan for your bedroom, I love this fan by Hunter. It has Mason jar-inspired glass lights to illuminate your modern style.

While the Noble Bronze color creates a nice monochromatic look, the Fresh White version of the fan also looks stunning for those who want a lighter color. It remains classic looking, yet chic.

Brambling Ceiling Fan

5. Brambling Ceiling Fan

You won’t find another ceiling fan that looks like the Brambling on the list. It’s a very contemporary and unassuming design but very stylish all the same.

There are two other options in addition to the pictures satin brass with walnut blades. The Matte Black with black blades is ideal for industrial decor, while the Matte White with white blades looks more minimalistic.

Casablanca Caneel Bay Indoor / Outdoor Ceiling Fan with LED Light and Wall Control

6. Caneel Bay Aged Steel

This fan gives me all the outdoor, tropical vibes! The aged steel look would look wonderful for those interested in a modern industrial style, which combines nicely with the worn-in wood. The ceiling fan is damp-rated, so it’s also perfect for outdoor use on screened porches or patios.

viven modern brass ceiling fan

7. Viven Modern Brass

If you want the elegance of a chandelier but need the functionality of a fan, you can get the best of both worlds with the Viven! This is a clear statement piece that would pop in your living room or bedroom.

Opt for the Brushed Nickel finish if you have cool tones in the room, or go for the Modern brass to pair with jewel-toned colors in standout rooms.

Hinkey Coastal Ceiling Fan

8. Monte Carlo Ceiling Fan

Talk about a statement piece! In most cases, people want fans to blend into their decor, not draw the eye up. But if you want a conversation piece, the Ren fan is perfect for you. The blades remind me of dragonfly wings, and I have no doubt they filter the air throughout the room like a dragonfly zipping by. While it’s available in white, the true statement comes from the American Walnut finish.

Avila 54" LED Ceiling Fan

9. Avila Ceiling Fan

While the style of the fan is mid-century modern, the color options for this fan are very much contemporary. You have three different design options, which are all very different in the final appearance: Aged Pewter with light grey weathered oak, Satin Brass with matte white, and Brushed Steel with silver.

54" Minka Aire Orb Brushed Brass LED Ceiling Fan with Remote Control

10. Minka Aire Orb

This fan is ideal for those who want a minimalist and modern fan for their home. The brass finish gives it a very industrial look that would look amazing in a dining room or entryway. In the center, the LED light is covered with etched opal glass for both an energy-efficient and soft design.

Hunter Cranbook Indoor Low Profile Ceiling Fan

11. Cranbrook Ceiling Fan

Every modern living room could use a ceiling fan like this one! The company Hunter describes the inspiration as mid-century modern, giving a simultaneous vintage and contemporary feeling. The central exposed bulb looks like it’s embedded in a metal lampshade.

It also comes in more colors, including Gray, Black and Blush Pink, though I must admit I’m partial to the Mint finish, pictured above.

60" Clover Ceiling Fan XL

12. Clover Ceiling Fan

This four-blade design is great if you don’t want something too busy yet stylish. The central light gives it a rustic look, complete with faux water drops on the glass. The blades themselves have a modern wooden finish.

I could see this working well in a farmhouse living room or entryway. The fan comes in Light Gray Weathered, Midnight Black, Washed Oak, and Oil Rubbed Bronze.

The Best Traditional Ceiling Fans

If you have a traditional home, like I do, these fans might be a better option for you than the contemporary or modern fans. The white fans that blend in with the ceiling are great options, too, like I shared at the beginning of this post.

Many times in a traditional home, you’ll forego an overhead light for sconces and lamps. So, that’s why you’ll see more ceiling fans without light kits in traditional homes.

Canfield XL Patio 60 in. Indoor/Outdoor Tannery Bronze Powder Coat Downrod Mount Ceiling Fan with Pull Chain

13. XL Outdoor Ceiling Fan

Sometimes you want something simple and classic! I love how simple this five-blade ceiling fan is, with thin and long blades. Its extra large size of 60 inches makes it perfect for a porch or covered outdoor space.

This ceiling fan comes in tannery bronze or weathered steel. So if you like the style, you have two easy neutrals to fit in with your color scheme.

Casablanca Panama Indoor Ceiling Fan

14. Casablanca Panama Indoor

Another simple and classic choice, but this time for the indoors! I love the simple and elegant lines with this fan, but it comes in 3 classic colors: brushed nickel, brushed cocoa and aged bronze.

Minka Aire Fan in Heirloom Bronze

15. Traditional Classic in 7 Colors

And finally, another timeless ceiling fan with simple lines and 7 amazing color options, including white, black, brushed nickel with dark walnut blades and my favorite, bronze.

Final Thoughts

And that wraps up all the ceiling fans that I just adore! Not only will they help to cool the house down, but they’ll look good while doing it.
