If you want to avoid uncertainty and headaches when choosing paint colors for bedrooms, try sticking to one of the colors on this list. They are all interior design favorites that look amazing almost anywhere and give the relaxing vibe you’re looking for.

That being said, always try a test swatch of the shade before you commit.

Once you have your favorites picked out from this list, you just need to make large paint swatches of each color to see how each paint shade looks in your lighting and with your decor. I showed how I did that when I picked out our living room paint colors.

Don’t skip this step!

PRO Tip

Any time you are choosing a new paint color, you need to try out the real paint color in your home first!

The easiest and quickest way to do that is with Samplize! I solely use them for paint samples now. There’s no mess, no leftover sample pots of paint. Plus, these no-mess, peel-and-stick rectangles made from real paint, are easy to move around the room and easy to save for future reference!

What is the Best Paint Color for Bedrooms?

The best wall color for a bedroom is one that is soothing, calming and sets a restful mood. This is usually a hue in the gray, green blue or neutral color families.

Over the years, I’ve learned a few things to make picking a color (and a whole house color palette) easier. My goal with this post is to help save you hours looking at paint chips and still having difficulty picking a color. So let me narrow down the most popular bedroom colors for you.

How to Pick the Perfect Bedroom Paint Color?

Start with how do you want the bedroom to feel. Draw inspiration from Pinterest or magazines.

Then take a look at your existing furniture and finishes. What colors will look best with light wood or dark wood? What colors have a calming effect and make you feel most at peace?

Then get swatches from Samplize or actual samples of the paint and paint them on the wall. See how the paint looks in your room’s light and with your furniture.

Best Blue Green Bedroom Paint Color Ideas

Cool colors such as blue paint colors and green paint colors are very calming and soothing. They’re instant stress-relievers, which make them perfect colors for bedrooms!

Mix blue and green together, and wow – it’s a pretty magical combination for anyone searching for soothing cool colors. Check out these top choices for stress-free blue-green bedroom walls.

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt

Sea Salt is one of my favorites because it has slightly warm undertones. It’s soothing and stunning and works well in both dark and brightly-lit rooms.

This versatile shade is a chameleon because it will shift how it reads depending on the light exposure. Pair it with Summit Gray, Accessible Beige, Spare White, or Kilim Beige.

NOTE: This color is similar to (and gets confused with) Palladian Blue. Check out my Sea Salt and Palladian Blue comparison if you want to see how they differ.

I love this color so much that I used it in our old kitchen and our new back porch!

Benjamin Moore October Mist

Next up: Benjamin Moore’s 2022 Color of the Year, October Mist. This color is a mid-toned sage green. It has gray and yellow undertones to give it a very balanced and earthy appearance.

Another shapeshifter, October Mist, will shift between leaning green or silver depending on the lighting. It can also read a little more yellow in warm lighting situations.

Try pairing this lovely shade with Natural Linen, Steam, Collector’s Item, or White Dove.

Benjamin Moore Healing Aloe

Healing Aloe is a gorgeous light blue-green that has proven to be both timeless and popular, so it’s one of the bedroom paint colors on this list. It works well in any room and is especially loved in bedrooms, thanks to the tranquil ambiance it creates.

Try pairing it with Agreeable Gray, Edgecomb Gray, Pale Oak, or Revere Pewter for a beautiful and grounded palette.

Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments

Quiet Moments is another chameleon blue-green-gray shade. Depending on the lighting, it can shift dramatically from looking pale blue to pale green with a hint of silver.

No matter which way it’s leaning, this gorgeous soothing color will add tranquility and serenity to your bedroom.

Try pairing it with Abyss, White Marigold, Edgecomb Gray, or Gray Cloud.

Sherwin Williams Light French Gray

Not to be confused with the Behr color of the same name, SW Light French Gray is a blue-toned gray with green undertones. In bright lighting, it will often look silvery blue, like in this bedroom.

Pair it with Riverdale, Ice Sculpture, or Pure White.

Sherwin Williams Rainwashed

Here’s another favorite muted blue-green shade, but this one tends to lean more to the green side of the spectrum, as you may notice in this bedroom. However, if your room has cool-tinted lighting, it may lean more blue.

Pair it with Agreeable Gray, Chantilly Lace, or Extra White.

Best Neutral Colors for Bedrooms

No color is more classic than white or off-white. These shades are beautifully neutral and versatile, so they can either enhance your decor or fade into the background, depending on what you want them to do!

Choosing white paint can be deceptively complicated, so here are my top neutral white paint colors for bedrooms to make the process easier!

Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee

Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee is an off-white that has remained popular for a while now and isn’t going anywhere thanks to its creamy appearance. It has slight yellow, green, and gray undertones making it read soft and inviting, as you can see on the board and batten in the bedroom below.

Pair it with Accessible Beige, Hale Navy, Storm, and Iron Mountain.

Benjamin Moore Silver Satin

Silver Satin is a stunning off-white with a silvery appearance and just a wink of purple undertones that peek through at times. It will read warm, creamy off-white in bright lighting, but darker, cooler lighting will reveal its silver tendencies.

Pair it with Cloud White, Gray Wisp, Glass Slipper, or Cumulus Cloud.

Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige

Shaker Beige is a warm, mid-toned beige that adds a cheerful, homey character to any room, so it’s one of my favorite bedroom paint colors. You want your bedroom to be homey, right? Trust this shade to create warmth and a cozy timeless backdrop in a bedroom.

Pair it with Simply White, White Dove, Lush, or Goldenhurst.

Sherwin Williams Shoji White

Shoji White by Sherwin Williams is a subtle, soft gray-white that’s a bit of a shape-shifter and can look very pale gray at times and read more white at others. It’s a popular color, but make sure you test it on your walls before committing!

Pair it with Alabaster, Sea Salt, Urbane Bronze, Dover White, or Worldly Gray.

I painted my office in Shoji White and LOVE it! The pale gray comes through in the room, which makes me super happy because it feels light and white but has subtle color.

Benjamin Moore Simply White

I love Simply White so much that I consider it my go-to white paint color. Case in point: you can find it in my former guest bedroom and on my former kitchen cabinets. It is a soft, warm white that gives off a subtle glow, but it doesn’t read yellow! No wonder it was the 2016 Benjamin Moore Color of the Year!

Pair it with Healing Aloe, Gray Mirage, Sea Salt, or Repose Gray.

Best Gray Bedroom Paint Colors

Gray and greige paint colors have been the go-to neutrals for many years now. They’re a favorite for anyone who loves neutrals because they add a little color and a chic ambiance that works with nearly any decor style.

Finding a perfect shade of gray is nearly as challenging as choosing white, so here are my top versatile choices.

Benjamin Moore Gray Owl

No list of the best bedroom paint colors would be complete without including Benjamin Moore Gray Owl! This color is amazingly versatile and will often read as a warm, true gray, but sometimes you will find a blue or green tint depending on the lighting and surroundings.

You can pair it with Simply White, Solitude, Burnt Ember, Beach Glass, and White Dove.

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter

One of my all-time favorite bedroom paint colors is Revere Pewter because it’s a warm-leaning greige that exudes calm, soothing vibes. I used it in our living room, hallways, and entryway in our old house.

And I loved it so much, I painted our current primary bedroom this calming shade of soft gray. It’s a great choice!

Check paint swatches first because depending on the lighting, this shade can flash mild green undertones.

Pair Revere Pewter with Soft White, Cloud White, Quiet Moments, Winding Vines, or Buxton Blue.

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray

Repose Gray had to be on the best bedroom paint colors list because it looks incredible nearly everywhere. It’s a warm gray that can show off some mild green or purple undertones, but they simply add depth to this very liveable shade.

Pair it with Pure White, Tidewater, Urbane Bronze, or Eider White.

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray

I’m convinced that the name for this shade was inspired by just how “agreeable” it is! This color is versatile and can shift between reading creamy gray, greige, and blue-gray. It has depth in spades and works well nearly anywhere.

Pair it with Pure White, Aloe, Oyster Bay, or Sea Salt.

Benjamin Moore Paper White

Even though Paper White has “white” in its name, it reads more like pale gray. This shade looks great with other cool tones like blues and violets and pops against white trim!

Pair it with Kendall Charcoal, Mauve Blush, and Desert Tan. As you can see below, it looks stunning paired with creamy neutrals and warm woods!

That wraps up this list of the best bedroom paint colors! I hope this covers the bases and helps you narrow down your list of favorites as you pick a new paint color for the bedroom. Make sure you test out any colors you like before spending money to paint the entire room!
