Coastal Book Nook Makeover
This cute mini book nook makeover is perfect for an affordable weekend project with just a few supplies!

My youngest get daughter has been patiently waiting for her room makeover ever since I finished her big sister’s room earlier this year. The only problem is that she’s changes her mind every other week on what she wants for her room.
I haven’t touched it since we moved in, other than to put her furniture in there. And it needs a LOT of work. But, I wanted to start with a small section of the room, so I decided to tackle the alcove with a dormer window first. It’s the perfect place for a little reading nook!
Here’s how it looked before, as a dumping ground for her stuffed animals and toys.
When we sat down to make a design board for the space, my daughter decided she wants a coastal themed bedroom.
So we started by looking for some inspiring art, which I’ll share later. But that gave us the jumping off point for picking a paint color. Whew! Let me tell you, we couldn’t come to an agreement on the paint color for a few days.
But thankfully Lowe’s has beautiful paint colors in both their Valspar paint line and their HGTV HOME by Sherwin Williams line. And in the end we both agreed on Tidewater.
Tidewater is an HGTV HOME by Sherwin Williams paint color and it is a beautiful light teal blue green. But it’s light enough to not overpower the small space. It’s a soothing and calming color that will work perfectly with textural pieces that evoke the seaside.

The paint we chose was the Valspar Signature Paint + Primer in an eggshell finish. It went on so perfectly smooth and I only needed two coats for a full and beautiful coverage. I always use Purdy paint brushes when I trim the walls, which can be picked up at Lowe’s while you’re getting your paint!
After the paint had dried, we moved on to cute accessories with the coastal theme in mind.
First we started with replacing the original window treatments that came with the house. Lowe’s has a great selection of window treatments. And in the end we chose a beautiful neutral Sun Zero blackout roman shade that works perfectly in her window. It was so easy to install! I screwed in two brackets and the back of the shades just clipped in!
Then I chose a cute blue and white Allen + Roth throw pillow for her window seat. I want this pillow in my living room!
I grabbed this allen + roth jute pouf ottoman for her to have a place to rest her feet if she decides to sit in the window seat. It’s a perfect accent for a small space, like a bedroom or apartment or cozy living room. It will double as extra seating when her friends come over!
And finally we chose this beautiful brushed gold sconce light because this alcove doesn’t get great light in the evening and it’s the perfect way to light up a dark corner. The sconce can be hard-wired or plugged in, so choose the option that works best for you!

I was so excited about all of the home decor items I found at Lowe’s, not just the items we purchased. But we have our eyes on some faux plants for the rest of my daughter’s room makeover. Lowe’s is the perfect place to find supplies for a quick and affordable home makeover!
