Beachy Tween Girl Bedroom Ideas

Discover budget-friendly tween girl bedroom ideas that blend style, storage, and personality. See how we transformed a small room into a cozy, functional space perfect for growing into the teen years.

I’ve been slowly (and inexpensively!) tackling my younger daughter’s tween bedroom makeover for the past year. It’s been a gradual process because I’ve tried to get creative and use items we already had on hand. But now that it’s finished, I thought it was high time to share the vision (and the whole makeover) with you. (Honestly, I thought I had already written this post to share the vision. Oops!)

A Little Background

When we first moved into our home five years ago, our two girls (then ages 5 and 9) shared a bedroom. After a year, they were ready for their own spaces, so we moved our younger daughter down the hall. And then…nothing. Her room sat untouched for the next four years while I focused on her older sister’s teen room and the main living areas.

Fast forward, and she’s now 10 ½—just the right age to create a fun, functional space that balances tween girl bedroom ideas with room to grow into her teenager years.

The Overall Tween Room Makeover Plan

This makeover needed to be practical but also reflect her personality. At this in-between stage, she still needs toy storage but also craves a “grown-up” vibe. We landed on a beachy, tween-friendly style that gives us plenty of flexibility to transition later.

My daughter originally wanted bright turquoise and hot pink (my mama heart couldn’t quite go there 😅). Instead, we compromised with a soft blue-green wall color and layered in muted blues and pinks through decor. It feels fresh and youthful without being overwhelming.

I’ll give you the whole vision and then talk about each area of the room …

The Paint Color: Sherwin Williams Tidewater

Choosing the right paint color was probably the hardest part! She wanted bold and saturated, while I pushed for light and airy. In the end, we settled on Sherwin Williams Tidewater, a soft blue-green that makes the room feel calm and cozy.

💡 Pro tip: Go lighter on the walls and bring in those bolder shades with decor and accents. It keeps the room versatile and prevents regret later on!

The Book Nook

One of my favorite tween girl bedroom ideas is to carve out a reading corner. We created a little “book nook” in her dormer window with a poof, pillow, and wall sconce. I’d still love to add a custom cushion to the window seat down the road, but for now, it’s the sweetest spot for reading or daydreaming.

The Loft Bed, Desk and Toy Storage

Storage was the biggest challenge of this makeover. Tweens have a mix of toys, dolls, crafts, and school supplies—all of which need a home.

Her loft bed solved two problems at once:

  • Desk space underneath for journaling, homework, and music
  • Toy storage with shelving for her American Girl dolls and accessories

This set-up maximizes her small room and gives her plenty of floor space to play.

Things got a lot better when we added the storage shelving under the bed. It keeps most of her dolls organized and up off the floor.

After …

Many evenings I can find her in her room, listening to music and writing in her journal at her desk. I’m so thankful she likes this space!

I can foresee her growing out of this loft bed in the next few years when she grows out of playing with toys and dolls. And then I think we’ll get her a double bed and a separate small desk. But until then, she’s really enjoying this set up.

A Jewelry Station

Another must-have for this stage? A spot to organize and display jewelry. We repurposed her old changing table/dresser into a jewelry station by sanding and re-staining it with a beachy vibe. Adding a mirror, lamp, and wall art created a functional, pretty corner where she can accessorize to her heart’s content.

You may have noticed the pink night stand next to the bed in the picture above. But in case you missed it, here it is again. 🤪

I painted this free night stand when my oldest was a baby and added a basket for her nursery. It’s been in one of my girls’ rooms ever since and I think it’s time to let it go! Also, it is now covered in stickers and NOT serving this space at all. 🤪

We still had my girls’ old changing table/dresser in our garage after unsuccessfully trying to sell it at a garage sale. You can see the original dresser color in the left pic below. And then I painted it with gray chalk paint for my younger daughter’s nursery.

I realized that while it no longer served us for clothing storage or a changing table, it would be the perfect place to keep all of her treasures and display her jewelry! So, I stripped it and re-stained it to give it a more beachy vibe to fit in with the theme of the room. Here she is…

Now, she has this whole surface to keep her jewelry with a lamp and mirror for trying on the necklaces and earrings!

I had this vanity mirror in my storage closet, just collecting dust. I had bought it for our powder bathroom, but it was too small. I’m happy to give my daughter a place where she can now see all of her jewelry at once.

We hung some printable art pieces in picture frames I already had for wall decor next to the mirror. And now it’s a pretty and functional space for getting ready each morning!

I love the simple jewelry stand and the adorable starfish ring bowl for all of her rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

Hangout Corner

Every tween needs a cozy hangout spot. And the layout of this room with the one dormer window and angled ceiling makes it kind of hard to arrange. The loft bed is pushed up in one corner, so there’s a small bit of space between the loft stairs and the wall.

We tucked a fluffy hang-a-round chair in the unused corner and paired with a woven pouf for texture, which doubles as an extra reading nook or a seat for friends when they come over.

Clothes Dresser and More Toy Storage

To keep her room clutter-free, we brought in a wide dresser for clothes and flipped an old IKEA storage unit on its side for extra bins.

The closet is on the same as these two storage pieces. The slightly angled wall behind the doors was a perfect place for the IKEA storage unit.

Right now, those bins hold dolls, dress-up clothes, and stuffed animals—but as she grows, they’ll be easy to repurpose for other storage.

Final Thoughts

This makeover was all about creating a room that works for today while planning ahead for tomorrow. By focusing on tween girl bedroom ideas that balance storage, style, and personality, we ended up with a space she loves spending time in—and that can easily evolve into a teen room later.

It’s not Pinterest-perfect, but it’s perfectly her, and that’s what matters most. 💕

I’m so happy to put a pin in this room makeover and call it done! I love how it turned out… how it feels like my daughter’s personality yet holds a multitude of storage solution for clothes, toys and treasures! She loves to spend time in here and that’s my favorite thing about this makeover!
