Plaid Christmas Kitchen

| |

Tour my Christmas kitchen with lots of pops of plaid! My Edgecomb Gray kitchen is the backdrop for our everyday life, so I love dressing it up for the holidays!

I wasn’t kidding when I shared that I went “mad for plaid” in my living room Christmas decor post this year. I really have loved adding lots of pops of red plaid to my home. And the kitchen is the prime example of that!

Out of all the rooms I decorate for Christmas, the kitchen is probably my favorite. (Closely followed by the living room family Christmas tree.) But I find it’s the hardest room to photograph because the light source is only at one end of the long room. So, it doesn’t translate to the screen very well. But I try to convey my love for it through these photos.

When I’m decorating the kitchen, I love to find holiday options for practical items. For example, I love replacing towels and mugs with my holiday collections. And this year I found the most perfect holiday runner to replace the rug next to my stove. It all makes me so happy when I’m cooking dinner each night.

By the way, if you’ve ever wondered how to decorate a kitchen, I shared my ideas here. (A lot of the kitchen staples are linked in that post as well, if I miss linking anything here. ☺️)

And of course, some of my standard kitchen decorating is back from years past. I always love to add wreaths on the cabinets. This year I bought some new wreaths that I love! (Last year I used some I already had and they just weren’t my favorites. You can see them in my Christmas kitchen last year.)

Wreaths on Cabinet Doors for Christmas

But these cute 12.5 inch mini mistletoe wreaths we’re a perfect fit for my cabinets this year.

Hang Wreaths from Cabinets with Command Hooks

I shared last year how I put some command hooks upside down to hang the ribbons for the wreaths. I left those command hooks inside the cabinets all year long and it worked again perfectly this year!

Holiday Eat-in Kitchen Decor

My gold mercury glass ornaments hanging from the chandelier are back just like last year. And of course some added greenery from the yard. I may try this decor idea in the dining room next year when I get my new chandelier in there.

Kitchen Storage Bench

I added a lumbar pillow to the storage bench this year thanks to a suggestion from my friend Emily. Duh! Why didn’t I ever think to add a lumbar pillow there before? I’ll have to find another cute one to have there for the rest of the year. But for now I’m enjoying this plaid and sherpa pillow!

I’ve shared before how I love this little decor moment behind my corner sink. I love the lamp, marble pothos plant, candle, my scalloped wicker picture frames and my custom window shade from Martha & Ash.

The lamp automatically turns on each night at dusk (thanks to my smart plugs that I use on all of my lamps). And it’s magical each night when the kitchen is all cleaned up, and I turn off the lights. The glow from the lamp just makes me smile. And then my pothos plant has grown a TON this year.

My mouth dropped open recently when I saw this same spot from a year ago! It now trails on to the floor by the bar stools and I think I probably need to move it up higher and get another one for by the sink.

Christmas candle in the kitchen

I always have an Antique Candle Co. candle back there ready to burn. A kitchen candle is a must. Right now I’m alternating between Good Tidings and Spiced Cranberry. They are so good and perfect for the holidays. (Although I think Good Tidings is sold out, but be sure to put it on your list for next year! Christmas Day is another good Christmas candle that I love.)

Kitchen Bar Cart Art

I changed out the artwork in my wicker scalloped frames for some festive prints from Dogwood Hill. I love them both, but that bar cart art is my favorite. 🍷

Let’s talk about this runner, shall we?? I’m so thrilled with how it looks in my kitchen. It’s a Ruggable rug (I’ve reviewed these washable rugs here). And I love that I just had to buy the top decorative piece to adhere to the rubber rug pad. And so I’ll just have to store this top piece of the rug for next year.

But the plaid is so fun for Christmas. I love how it pairs perfectly with my Stewart Tartan hand towels. I’m obsessed!

Tartan Table Runner

And of course I had to get a tartan plaid table runner for my kitchen table (also seen in my dining room Christmas tour this year). It’s the perfect pop of color for the table, and looks casually festive with my girls’ gingerbread house centerpieces.

Christmas Eat-in Kitchen Decor

We get the Target gingerbread houses each year to decorate, but last year was the first time I used them as a centerpiece in my wooden tray on the table, and I think it’ll be a tradition going forward. By the way, this was the first year I didn’t try to “help” them decorate. Less fancy, more real. But it seems to be a theme we’re going with this year and I like it!

Christmas Kitchen Decor

I’m loving my new collection of Santa salt shakers and mis-matched Christmas plates that I display above my desk in the kitchen.

I now have two Santa salt shakers, one from last year and one I found this year. I am going to try to add one to my collection each year.

And I added the small Santa plate to my collection this year, too. They make me smile seeing them “peek-a-boo” through the glass front cabinets.

Christmas Plates and Santa Salt Shaker

And of course we have our coffee station with the Christmas mugs I’ve collected over the years. My girls think it’s so fun to use the Mrs. Claus and reindeer mugs for their hot chocolate. I hope they will use them in their homes one day with fond memories of their childhood.

Christmas Coffee Station

Oh, and I almost forgot. Let’s talk about this fun corner with the stairs and my Christmas card display. This spot looks a little different from last year because I added the stair runner this year, and the mirror that used to be in my dining room. It’s fun to now have a dedicated place to hang our Christmas cards where we can see them every day!

Mirror Displaying Christmas Cards

I added more greenery to my banister this year. It looked so good with just the greenery that I didn’t feel like it needed bows. I discovered these awesome decorative twist ties this year for attaching the greenery to the banister!

Christmas Garland on Stair Banister

I used floral wire last year and they left a mark on my banister. But these are soft and pretty. I used the gold color, which is already sold out. But they still have brown ones in stock!

Christmas Garland in the Hallway

This is three garlands attached to each other. I start with a cheap garland, then layer in nicer garlands on top, using the cheap garland to “grab” onto the next garland. (See my mantel greenery post to see the idea. I use the same concept.)

Greenery Garland and Christmas Cards

My nicest garland came from a local shop. I purchased this 15-foot-long cedar garland this year and love how it extends on each end and winds down the newel post. It’s perfect, if I do say so myself. And I couldn’t help but put some hanging bells on the newel post as well.

Christmas Kitchen with Plaid Accents

I think that wraps up my kitchen Christmas tour! I hope you enjoyed getting to see how I styled everything and little peek into my brain and why I decorate the way I do. I’m so happy you’re here!

    1. Thank you for the tip, Carol! I’m fairly new to being a plant mom, but I’ve actually wondered if that would work. I kind of want to move this to a larger pot/new spot and cut of a piece to keep it in the kitchen. I’ll experiment with it. But I love this plant!! Grows so well, and obviously hard to kill if I’ve kept it alive this long! 😜 Thank you!! xo, Laura
