Red, White and Gold Christmas Decor

Do you love classic, traditional Christmas decor? Try this elegant red, white and gold Christmas decor theme for your home this year! Get inspired to create a cozy home for the holidays today!

Welcome to my classic cranberry red Christmas living room full of gold accents and traditional style! I’ve never gone so traditionally red with my decor, so it was time to embrace the favorite color of the season.

I’ll be honest that while red hasn’t been my favorite color to decorate with. I even wrote a post a few years ago about how to decorate for Christmas without using red. Ha!

But, the classic color scheme has slowly, but surely, made its way into my holiday decorating. There’s something joyful about the punchy cranberry hue that makes me smile and says we’re ready for Santa!

Last year I really embraced my favorite color and did an all blue Christmas. I really loved the look and will most likely go back to it again soon.

But a few years ago, I started incorporating reds into my decor with some pretty plaid bedding and some plaid ribbon on the tree. And it really was pretty. That nostalgic tree was so fun to do with my girls.

And while I don’t change too much about the decor in the rest of my home every year, I do love changing the color themes in my living room. So, this year it was a full on love of deep reds, bright pops of cherry and even some dusty mauve hues.

When I saw these beautiful mulberry velvet ornaments and this mauve velvet ribbon, I knew I wanted to go with a velvet, luxe vibe with my materials.

I love to share fun ways to decorate a home for the holidays. I’ve showed how to add garland to a staircase, or how to decorate the kitchen for Christmas. This year, I added a new post all about Christmas card holders. I hope these posts inspire you to create a home you love!

Plans for Red Christmas Decor in the Living Room

It’s so fun to be able to take elements that I’ve used in the past and add a few new items for a completely different look! Here was design board for the room. I find it helps me plan and buy for the space when I see it altogether first! (Learn how to create your own design board!)

I always focus on the tree decor first and will buy a few new rolls of ribbon and ornaments. I used the same white and gold ornaments I’ve used for years, but bought all of the red ornaments because I didn’t have any. These flocked red ornaments came in a pack of 6 and were only $10!

Once I figure out the color theme, I start looking for the perfect coordinating wrapping paper. I found the winterberry gingham, watercolor nutcracker and green plaid paper at a small shop! It’s perfect for my tree!

It’s been so fun to see how it all looks together as I’ve started decorating the tree. I arranged some items together in this compilation below.

I have wrapped a few gifts that I’ve already ordered and put them under the tree. While I still have a lot of shopping left to do, it’s good to know the gifts I do have are ready to go! Ha! (If you do, too, feel free to check out my gift guides!)

Christmas Decor on the Mantel

I went with the traditional, symmetrical, double swoop mantel garland on the fireplace. It’s been the go-to the past year or so, and it felt right to keep things classic this year. I have had this beautiful frame TV art for a few years and I thought the pops of red worked well this year!

Mantel with traditional garland

You can find my tutorial with a video on how to put a garland on a mantel in this post. It’s several garlands layered on top of each other. Then I add my bells and ribbon bow to finish it off.

The stockings are hung from hooks I screw into the under side of the mantel. I use a little ribbon to hang the stockings lower so that they’re not blocked by the garland. Once Christmas is over, I take the hooks away and you can’t see the evidence of the holes.

The Red, White and Gold Christmas Tree Decorations

Let’s move on to the Christmas tree, the star of the show! The Christmas tree decorating process I use, is in this post from a few years ago. I love layering a tree collar with a tree skirt.

It had been a few years since I bought a lot of new Christmas decor, so I went a little bit overboard this year. I bought a new red scalloped tree skirt, bow tree-topper, a few ornaments and new ribbons. But I used my old gold picks, gold and white ornaments and basket tree collar.

I always start by picking the ribbon color. These two red ribbons were a perfect place to start and then I found coordinating ornaments to go with them!

I even bought these clip-on candles that are controlled by a remote. I LOVE how they add so much to the tree and can be set on a timer with the remote.

Holiday Media Cabinet Decor

On the back wall of the living room is a media cabinet. I keep my wood framed mirror there all year long and simple change up the decor around it. Then I like to add flocked trees in baskets for Christmas/winter and use a coordinating ribbon around the basket. My inexpensive nativity scene works perfectly back there this year.

I ove mixing old and new pillows each year on the sofa and only bought three new pillows this year. The “Noel” pillow and green knit pillow are both pretty inexpensive. But the red velvet pillow is nicer and the same quality as my green velvet pillows I already had. You can’t go wrong with classic velvet Christmas pillows! They add such a luxurious texture to the room.

Behind the sofa is my console table I’ve had for year and I simple add some of my favorite holiday frames and tie a bow to make things festive!

Simple Red, White & Gold Built-in Bookshelf Decor

I added some seasonal decor to my built-in bookshelf favorites. They are pretty simple, but I like how they turned out! It took me a few tries to get the pops of red right and to find the perfect balance, but I love how it turned out!

I already had a few picture frames with red and a red Santa, but I had to find a few more colorful red decor items with candles, ornaments and bows! Most of it, I already owned, so that’s nice!

This is the same dough bowl I use for fall, then empty out the pumpkins and hydrangeas and add pinecones, red ornaments and bells with some greenery for good measure.

Last year, I hung mini juniper Christmas wreaths on the windows in the living room. This year, I simply changed out the ribbon to match my decor and they worked perfectly again! The one whole wall is windows, so it adds some festive decor to the otherwise plain windows.

Final Thoughts

I think that about covers the whole living room! I’m so happy with how it looks and I’m glad it’s done so we have the whole season to enjoy it. If there’s a link I missed in the tour, feel free to ask in the comments below.

I hope in sharing the Christmas decor each year, that it inspires you to create a home that you love! I can’t tell you how cozy the house feels now with the Christmas tree up. I’ve definitely taken a few couch naps since it’s been up.

Now, the girls and I will add in some of our sentimental ornaments that we like to use each year. I simply take pictures before we do that and then let the girls have a free-for-all with the decor they like. It actually turns out pretty cute, too!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed the tour of my holiday decorations in the living room.

Other Rooms Decorated for Christmas

I don’t plan on changing too many other rooms this year. So, if you want to see my other rooms decorated for Christmas, come and take a look…
