Home Goals 2020, Part 2

|

I recently realized that I felt lost in the journey to update our new home. I didn’t know what projects to do next.

I have *almost* completed my office makeover and my living room makeover, but I felt like I didn’t have any goals beyond those two rooms. And then it hit me that I had forgotten to write new home goals in the beginning of April! 🤦🏼‍♀️ (See my Home Goals I wrote in January HERE.)

This year I decided to try something different, in that I wasn’t going to write home goals for the whole year all at once. But rather write goals for each quarter. Well, in the midst of the current national crisis, I’d totally missed that deadline (April 1)!

So, I sat down this weekend to revisit my goals I’d made in January and set some new goals for home improvement this quarter.

First, let’s see how I did with my goals from January:

1. Paint! Paint, paint and more paint!!

A+

2. Light Fixtures.

  • Hallway light. It was removed in the move-in process in order to be able to move things upstairs, and we never put it back. I’m going to put a beautiful brass sconce there! Can’t wait!
  • Entry light. I have an idea of what I want, but just need to find it and buy it.
  • Add an overhead light in the office.

F- – Ha! I got a big F- on this one. I didn’t do a single one of these. Instead, I worked on the living room makeover. But these lighting updates will come eventually!

3. The Office.

I’m giving myself an A+ on this one, because I’m just waiting on the company with the blinds and then we should be done!

Bonus #4. DIY Dishwasher Panel.

  • Done! I am so happy with how it turned out and I shared it in this post.

A+

Home Goals for 2020 {April – June}

Now that my family is home from school through August, I’m not sure how many projects I’ll get done, but I am shooting for 3 goals for each quarter this year. I hope to tackle one space in particular, and that is the girls’ bedroom and bathroom.

1. Makeover the Girls’ Bedroom & Bathroom.

It’s been a fairly smooth transition for them to move into the new house, but they miss their decorated old rooms. My oldest especially has been begging for me to paint the lime green walls.

There are two bedrooms in our new house for the girls, but they decided to try sharing the room with the ensuite bathroom and using the other bedroom for a play room. I wanted to give it a few months trial before we committed to doing the shared room. And so far, so good!

White Filmore Bunk Beds
I’ve been eyeing these bunk beds for years!
  • Paint the bedroom walls Pink Ground by Farrow and Ball
  • Paint the Bathroom Shoji White by Sherwin Williams
  • Maybe add an accent wall with wallpaper or stencil?
  • Buy bunk beds (I’ve had my eye on this full loft bed over full bed for years!)
  • Buy new bedding
  • Either buy new or get an old dresser and paint it white
  • Reuse old decor for the walls
  • Hem the curtains

As you can see, it’s not much more than painting, getting their beds set up and decorating, but I think it will take a couple months to get it all done. Currently my oldest is sleeping on a day bed and my youngest is sleeping in the trundle bed on the floor. I know it will feel so much more like their space once we get it spruced up!

This is how the room currently looks:

I’m put the day bed & trundle in the play room as a seating area and extra beds for guests.

2. Finish the Office Space & share it. See the Office design plan here.

  • Get bamboo blinds for the doors
  • See everything else we already accomplished at the beginning of this post!

That’s all we have left! So excited to get this room finished and share the final results.

3. Finish the Living Room & share it. See the Living Room design plan here.

  • Hide the TV cord behind the wall.
  • Find a piece of art or decor to go on one last wall.
  • Hang TV above the mantel. Done!
  • Arrange decor on the bookshelves. Done!
  • Hang curtains. Done!
  • Add Gallery Wall. Done!

Then it will be done for now! I’m so excited that this room came together so easily and we were mostly able to use items we already had.

We all replace the ceiling fan and add some new swivel chairs at a later time. I’m trying to get the most important rooms to a good place before I invest in a bunch of new decor or furniture.

BONUS 4. Purchase a new light fixture for our eat-in kitchen area.

The other night we were eating and I looked up to see that one of the panes of this hideous light was broken and about to fall on us! Yikes!

We removed it and my husband declared it was time to get a new light in there.

Done! You don’t have to ask me twice! I am on the hunt for the perfect light fixture in that space. I still don’t have a vision for the kitchen, so it will be a challenge to pick a light fixture without a full vision board, but I’m gonna try!

I hope it’s helpful for you to see how I make home goals each quarter. So far, I find it helpful to break it down into 3-month periods as opposed to doing one big list for the entire year! As long as I remember to revisit my list and re-do it each quarter, we’re good!

Off to tackle some painting and shopping!
