Best No-Fail Greige Paint Colors For Your Home

|

There are few colors as versatile as greige. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed backdrop color or a touch of elegance, there is something for everyone in this list of the best greige paint colors.

How often have you sat there looking at beige and gray paint samples and been unable to decide between them? That’s the very reason that greige paint colors were born.

Greige is the perfect marriage of two of the most popular neutral color families. Now you can have your cake and eat it too – or rather your beige and gray in one!

Gone are the builder-grade beiges of the 1990s and the cold grays of the 2000s in favor of colors that are more modern-looking, endlessly versatile, and beautiful with a touch of sophistication.

Best Greige Paint Colors

Since greiges are a blend of beige and gray, there are dozens of variations on the market. Some will lean more beige, while others will appear a little grayer. Choosing just one color among the sea of possibilities can be…challenging.

Never fear because I will help make the decision process easier by eliminating all but the best and most popular greige paint color options on the market. We’re going for no-fail greiges here! Let’s dive right in.

Undertones You Can Find in Greige Paint Colors

Undertones are those subtle differences you pick up in colors that help set one shade apart from another. For example, the hint of brown you can see in a specific greige paint is an undertone.

Greige paint colors are endlessly versatile because they can display a wide range of undertones. For example, you can find pink, red, or yellow undertones in warm-leaning greiges. On the other hand, cool-leaning greiges will display purple, blue, or green undertones.

Edgecomb Gray is one of my favorite greige paint colors.

Like white paint, lighting and nearby decor can influence the undertones in greige paint and cause it to read differently in various situations. Use large paint swatches to test any colors you like before you buy them, so you have a chance to vet those undertones before committing!

In north-facing rooms, you’ll notice the cool-toned lighting draws out any cool undertones a shade has, and colors will often appear darker. In contrast, south-facing rooms have bright, warm light all day which pulls out warm undertones and can make shades appear washed out.

9 Best No-Fail Greige Paint Colors

If you’re searching for that ideal balance between warm and cozy and elegant sophistication, greige might be just the color you need. There’s something for everyone on this list because I’ve gathered up a range of options that include both warm and cool choices.

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray

I’m starting this list off with a bang! Agreeable Gray (SW 7029) is one of the most popular greige paint colors on the market because it stays neutral while also having versatility.

Its LRV of 60 puts it in that ideal “Goldilocks” range, where it provides good saturation without appearing too dark in rooms with low light or washing out in rooms with bright light. Plus, it’s versatile enough that this soft, warm neutral will shift between leaning gray or beige based on the light exposure.

I recommend pairing Agreeable Gray with Snowbound (SW 7004), Pure White (SW 7005), Sea Salt (SW 6204), or Alabaster (SW 7008).

This gorgeous farmhouse-style dining room from Kylie M. Interiors absolutely shines in Agreeable Gray!

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray

Edgecomb Gray (HC-173) is a warm, earthy, and versatile greige paint color that’s comparable to Agreeable Gray. Since it leans more beige, you might say that Agreeable Gray is the most popular gray-leaning greige, while Edgecomb Gray is one of the most popular beige-leaning greige paint colors.

This crowd-pleasing rich shade has an LRV of 63.88 and neutral gray-green undertones that make it read soft and appealing. I recommend pairing it with Kendall Charcoal (HC-166), White Dove (OC-17), or Hale Navy (HC-154).

I love the warmth Edgecomb Gray lends to our kitchen! Its neutral nature can expertly bridge the gap between warm wood tones and cool dark accents.

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige

Accessible Beige (SW 7036) is another hugely popular greige paint color from Sherwin Williams. Although the name may bring to mind builder’s beiges, this beige-leaning greige is much more complex and beautiful.

It has an LRV of 58 and will shift between gray and beige, depending on the lighting. I recommend pairing it with Alabaster (SW 7008), Greek Villa, Sea Salt (SW 6204), or Dovetail (SW 7018).

This bedroom from Amanda Katherine shows the calm, cozy vibe that Accessible Beige can create. Gorgeous!

Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray

Mindful Gray (SW 7016) lands right in the middle of the scale with an LRV of 48, but it’s one of the darker shades on this list. As a warm, gray-leaning greige paint color, it is a darker, richer version of Agreeable Gray and will pair well with both warm and cool color palettes.

I recommend pairing it with Snowbound (SW 7004), Naval (SW 6244), or Pure White (SW 7005).

I love this living room from Thistlewood Farms! And it expertly highlights Mindful Gray, showing how soft and light it often reads.

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter

Revere Pewter (HC-172) is one of those greige paint colors that has withstood the test of time. With an LRV of 55.51 and warm undertones, it has plenty of saturation and is versatile enough to use in almost any room. And it’ll add an earthy, rustic vibe, so it’s ideal for farmhouse (and many other) style homes.

I recommend pairing Revere Pewter with White Dove (OC-17), Chelsea Gray (HC-168), or Hale Navy (HC-154).

I love the way it looks in our previous living room!

Benjamin Moore Pale Oak

Pale Oak (OC-20) isn’t as popular as some of the other greiges on this list, but I think it’s underrated. With an LRV of 70 and mild yellow and pink undertones, this lovely soft greige will often wash out in very bright rooms, but it has enough saturation to contrast with white.

I recommend pairing it with Chantilly Lace (OC-65), Healing Aloe (1562), White Dove (OC-17), or Hale Navy (HC-154).

I love this entryway from A Thoughtful Place! Pale Oak reads perfectly neutral and light and keeps this space feeling airy and welcoming.

Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist

Here’s another popular greige paint color that has been around for a while and has even gained popularity in the last ten years or so. Balboa Mist (OC-27) is slightly warmer and darker than Pale Oak, which gives it more depth. With an LRV of 67, it’s a light greige with mild purple undertones that give this shade a neutral softness that looks great in many homes.

I recommend pairing it with Pure White (SW 7005), White Dove (OC-17), or Hale Navy (HC-154).

Turn your open kitchen into a stunner with Balboa Mist, and warm wood tones like Housekeeping Bay did.

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray

Repose Gray (SW 7015) has an LRV of 58, making it slightly lighter than Mindful Gray with similar undertones. Repose Gray is one of the best greige paint colors because it has a gray base mixed with brown and subtle purple undertones that make this color read soft, inviting, and neutral. It works wonderfully with any decor style.

I recommend pairing it with Pure White (SW 7005), Sea Salt (SW 6204), or Simply White (OC-117).

I love the lovely neutral backdrop that Repose Gray creates in this swoon-worthy bedroom from Designing Vibes!

Benjamin Moore Classic Gray

Don’t let the name fool you. Classic Gray (OC-23) may sound like a true gray, but it isn’t. Instead, it’s one of my favorite versatile, timeless greige paint colors because it’s a no-fail warm shade with subtle green undertones that lend depth. With an LRV of 74.78, you’ll likely notice it wash out in bright light exposure, but it’s a dream in low-light rooms.

I recommend pairing it with Balboa Mist (OC-27), White Dove (OC-17), or Simply White (OC-117).

Classic Gray looks lovely in the bedroom from Studio McGee. The color reads nearly white but appears soft and inviting.
